A bit of background
I began working in health and safety in my early twenties and recognised immediately that this was a very negative sector to work in! Starting my career as a young consultant right at the coal face in major construction was a real eye-opener in terms of the need to work with people and try to change culture positively – challenges I still relish and which have proved beneficial in building relationships and finding solutions to problems in the sectors I have subsequently worked in including education, civil engineering, construction, retail, motorsport, facilities and event management.
Why do you love safety?
Simple – if applied correctly, safety management enables people to do a good job without hurting themselves or others. I get a lot of satisfaction from demystifying health and safety and removing the stigma that often comes with the role. Basically, if health and safety feels like it is getting in the way, something is wrong, so helping to unlock the potential for health and safety to contribute to business success is always rewarding.
What’s the best part of your job?
Working with Toby, building long term relationships with our clients and making safety simple. Not necessarily in that order.
Apart from safety what else do you love to do?
Outside of work I enjoy running, cricket, rugby, playing in bands and walking in the Cotswold countryside with my family and Elmo the spaniel.

A bit of background
I’ve been working as a Health and Safety Consultant since 2020. Stopping along the road to watch construction sites, take pictures of scaffolding, or analyse an interesting building was a regular part of growing up in a ‘health and safety family’.
I’ve enjoyed applying that experience into my work within the NHS and now as a Health and Safety Consultant. Using analysis and understanding of the principles of health and safety means we can use it as an enabling force for good! Not just a box-ticking exercise that gets in the way of good work.
Why do you love safety?
Being able to help clients see health and safety as a critical and essential friend as opposed to the enemy.
What’s the best part of your job?
Getting to see such a wide range of buildings of different age, size, and use across a variety of sectors is varied and keeps the job interesting. No two days are the same!
And working with my dad, mum and sister of course!
Apart from safety, what else do you love to do?
I enjoy cooking and hiking with my wife Molly, and am a keen footballer, golfer, and cricketer. I also play guitar and currently play in a band with my dad (boss) and younger brother.
